Course Overview

 

Goal of the 5 Session Emotional Intelligence Course : Increase teamwork, team passion and team effectiveness by learning to capture the intensity, passion and power of emotions.   

Classes can be given as a group or as individual courses.

Session One: Flying with your own wings - Understanding Self-Awareness 

Self-awareness serves as an inner barometer gauging whether what we are doing is worthwhile.  The choices that move us closer to a meaningful end goal are energizing - the choices that move us away are defeating.

Making the right choice, as individuals and as a team, begins with self-awareness. 

At the end of this course, you will be able to: 

1. Diagnose personal and team areas ripe for improvement

2. Diagnose your strengths, weaknesses and tendencies as well as the strengths, weaknesses and tendencies of your team

3. Tune-in to your emotions and how they can help or hurt you/your team

4. Read the valuable information your emotions give you

5. Begin to understand your life purpose and the impact knowing it can have on your decisions

Session Two: Be Your Own Thermostat - The Power of Self Regulation

 Individuals and teams can be hijacked by emotions and emotionally charged responses.  Ever wished you could take back something you said?  Ever made decisions in the heat of the moment that you wished later you could change?

The techniques of self-regulation will help you harness the power of your emotions so they assist you instead of holding you hostage. 

 At the end of this course, you will be able to: 

1. Apply techniques that will increase your self-regulation

2. Recognize the benefits of self-control

3. Understand how your emotions can assist you, not distract you with the task at hand.

4. Diagnose your tendencies toward blame shifting or other damaging habits.

5. Grasp the power of - and know how to manage - your own emotional triggers.

6. Communicate without defensiveness.

Session Three: When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Already Left - Understanding True Self-motivation.

 Winston Churchill gave a famous speech in which the only words were: "Never, never, never give up."  Powerful, but there is more to being motivated than not giving up.  Often what keeps us from succeeding is not tools, techniques, talent, or time but the ability to motivate ourselves towards the end result. 

At the end of this course, you will be able to: 

1. Set meaningful goals for yourself and your team

2. Exhibit greater self-motivation

3. Start giving your best at work and not just your most

4. Diagnose the negative consequences of or lack of self-motivation

5. Demonstrate an ability to stay in the moment.

6. Bounce back from negative circumstances

Session Four:  You Feel, Therefore, I Am -Building Empathy and Increasing Trust

 Trust is the backbone of all the things we treasure in our closest relationships. Confidence. Encouragement. Calmness. Openness. Fun. Trust allows us to excel in situations where we normally wouldn't. There is an undeniable link between building empathy and building trust.

Understanding others' moods, reactions and tendencies is the first step in building trusting healthy teams.   

At the end of this course, you will be able to: 

1. Understand the relationship between empathy and success

2. Increase your level of team awareness

3. Understand importance of relationships to your own success

4. Apply  principles that enable you to build trust

5. Apply techniques that will drastically increase your empathy.

Session Five:  Should We Take This Outside? - Emotionally Intelligent Confrontation 

Confrontation doesn't need to be a nightmare. Every team needs to understand how to confront one another.  With the right techniques, you can benefit from open and honest conversations. At the end of this course, you will be able to:
